NEXT SCREENING:Septembre 22, 2026
@COOP Brussels
6.30 pm

Screening of the film “Living and Working in NovaCity I,” with the director in attendance, followed by the

discussion “NovaCity I: The Experience of Living Together,” with Fabrice Cumps (Mayor of Anderlecht), Lisa de Visscher (Bouwmeester Maitre Architecte), Benjamin Cadranel (CEO of citydev.brussels) and Oana Bogdan (founding architect of &Bogdan).

"Brussels is seeing small businesses reappear in the city and even on the ground floors of residential buildings. Launched in 2023, NovaCity I is the first project of its kind in the capital, the result of a new public policy. Hicham, Pauline, Xavier, and 65 other families buying their first homes live on the upper floors of this brand-new building. Roldan, Noune, Théo, and 13 other entrepreneurs have set up their businesses in the ground-floor workshops. During a
unique gathering, residents and entrepreneurs meet for the first time, invited by the filmmaker to share their experiences and, hopefully, defuse certain conflicts.

By seeking to deconstruct urban utopias and the images that stem from them, they attempt together to sketch out a future for their new home. This endeavor is all the more necessary since, in a few months, NovaCity II will be built right across the street..."MORE INFO COMING SOON

LIVING AND WORKING IN NOVACITY I2026

Small productive businesses are making a comeback in Brussels, even on the ground floors of residential buildings. NovaCity I, completed in 2023, is the first project of its kind in the capital and is the result of a new public policy.

Hicham, Pauline, Xavier and 65 other first-time buyers live in the upper floors of this brand new building. Meanwhile, Roldan, Noune and Mamadou, along with 13 other entrepreneurs, have set up their businesses in the ground-floor workshops.

In an unprecedented move, the director has invited residents and entrepreneurs to come together for the first time to share their experiences and potentially defuse certain conflicts.

By deconstructing urban utopias and the images that stem from them, they are attempting to collectively sketch out a future for their new home. This is an endeavour that has become all the more necessary, since NovaCity II is set to be built right across the street in a few months' time.

TRUSSES2022

"Trusses" is above all a parti pris: not telling the story of the construction of the Amal Amjahid building located on the edge of the canal in Molenbeek, but the one of four of its trusses, four metal structures that support the project designed by the architects of Bogdan & Van Broek, who became then protagonists of the film.

The result is a surprising 8 minutes film journey that takes us
by river from the German border to Brussels city center.

WBA PRESENTS2026

As part of its efforts to promote architecture professionals internationally, Wallonie-Bruxelles Architectures has commissioned Jonathan Ortegat, a cinematographer and architectural photographer, to produce short films showcasing contemporary architectural achievements. The first clips feature projects nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award.

Visually, the concept is simple: Jonathan films the buildings without any people present. The shots are static or feature slight movement. The style is clean, minimalist and poetic. A key editing choice is to split the screen in two, multiplying the points of view and creating a dialogue between them to establish a visual interplay between what’s in frame and what’s off-screen.

In terms of audio, Jeanne Debarsy captures the ambient sounds of the building in operation, providing an insight into the activity that isn’t visible on screen. Against this backdrop of ambient sounds, words and short phrases emerge in unison to form a voice-over composed of interviews gathered from the building’s users. The interviewees talk about their relationship with the building, relevant details, architectural anecdotes, the pleasure they experience during a particular season, the unique light, and more.

Finally, Loup Mormont’s original music blends with the ambient sounds and collected voices to create a unique and complex soundscape.

LA RECETTE2019

In 2019, La Faculté d’Architecture La Cambre Horta asked us to document its Semaine d’Innovation Pédagogique, the so called SIP : a week for the future architects to test the multiplicity of their practice through different workshops.

Our workshop L’architecte à la caméra, refering to Dziga Vertov’s masterpiece L’homme à la caméra, was born from this proposal. During a week, we introduced to 8 students the basics of documentary making and filming architecture.
La recette is the result of the student filming team I led and tells the story of Jérémie, student as well, who was named to lead a construction workshop within a week with other mates with one goal: create a mobile kitchen to be driven by a bike. Will they be successful? Just watch the movie!

A METAMORPHOSIS2017

With regards to its structure, the architects from V+ and designers from ROTOR proposed to keep the shape of the existing constructions. The result is a spacious, bright and airy space that runs right through the block from one end to the other. The interior surfaces soften the white with a range of old and new materials, from Pirelli rugs of our metro stations to granite from old Brussels houses, to stencil-decorated wood. This results in layered and overlapping spaces, each possessing their own identity in a fluid flow of beautiful brightness. A space that nurtures creativity and meetings.
MAD has received financial support from ERDF, the City of Brussels and the Brussels-Capital Region towards its new building, located between the Nouveau Marché aux Grains and the Rempart des Moines.

	THE LOOP2015

When I spontaneously suggested to Thierry Bontridder to film his works, he immediately gave me carte blanche.

My expressed intention was to make a sensitive film without data on the author's life or the works themselves. The starting point was clear: to take an abstract look at his work, to dare to stage it and to try to reveal its essence.

This film is a rebirth, an internal vibration, an infinite dance that neither he nor I had imagined...

NUOPA by Walt2024

Formerly known as Go-Architectes, Walt has developed unique expertise in hospital projects over the years. The renovation of a new pediatric oncology unit for adolescents and young adults—carried out while the facility remained in operation—at the Oscar Lambret Center in Lille is a prime example.

To illustrate this project visually, we adapted the concept developed with Wallonie Bruxelles Architecture: filming the building without any people present. Wide shots and close-ups. We played with space through tracking shots and with time through long sequences. Still shots and shots with slight movement. The style is clean, minimalist, and poetic all at once.

On the audio side, ambient sounds from the building in operation convey the activity that isn’t visible on screen, creating a sense of dissonance. Against this backdrop of ambient sounds, words and short phrases emerge in unison to form a voiceover composed of remarks collected from the building’s users. They speak to us about their relationship with the building, relevant details, architectural anecdotes, the pleasure they experience during a particular season, the unique light, and more…

An original musical composition opens and closes the video, serving as the opening and closing credits. Some of these melodies reappear in the middle of the video, blending with the ambient sounds and the collected words to create a unique and complex soundscape.
